The Greater Searcy County Chamber of Commerce hosted a “Chamber Social Potluck” on Friday, 22 February at 6 p.m. in the new Veteran’s Memorial Hall in Marshall. Even though the weather was chilly, the heaters warmed up the building and we had a nice group for the potluck.
With over 35 in attendance, the chamber signed up several new members, and others used this opportunity to renew their support. A good dinner was shared by all.
President Darryl Treat welcomed all the guests, and gave a report of the ongoing operations of the chamber, the Chocolate Roll festival and other activities coming up that the chamber is working on. Vice President Lee Walsh gave a status report on the new 2013 Community and Relocation Guide. The guide has over doubled in size this year, and the chamber is printing a minimum of 6000 copies for distribution in all 13 State of Arkansas Welcome Centers, and several other local and regional locations. Everyone looked over the printed “prototype” and progress of the guide at the event and all the comments were good.
James Fountain gave a history and a report on the history of the Veterans Building, and visitors got to see the nice progress on the structure, which isn’t too far away from completion. Including one purchase of a “buy a log” program, at the event, chamber members raised about $270 for the Veterans and the building.
