The Buffalo River Historic Jail & Museum
The Buffalo River Historic Jail and Museum is here to tell the story of the land and people of the Buffalo River Valley with its unique history and culture. The museum and staff are dedicated to providing the highest level of a professional museum experience, while still being fun and entertaining for the visitor. Child friendly with a “Hands On” approach to experiencing the old jail cell from a bygone era, the museum has something for all ages. All this is housed in a building that is a historic treasure, the carefully restored 1902 Searcy County Jail. This structure is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is also a recipient of the 2022 Award for Excellence in Preservation through Rehabilitation. Conveniently located one block off the Marshall Town Square on South AR Highway 27, the Buffalo River Historic Jail and Museum is open free to the public 10am-3pm Wednesday – Saturday or by special appointment through the Greater Searcy County Chamber of Commerce. For more information contact the chamber at 870-448-2557.
